Urban design has emerged as a key if not the key topic in architecture today. Architecture practices are increasingly moving into areas of work traditionally covered by urban planners in providing coherent designs for a number of buildings on the same site in order to provide buildings that are multi-purpose, mixed developments. In addition, students are being encouraged to think not only about individual buildings, but their context and their surroundings.
